The Roland TD316 is a mid-level V-Drums 3 Series electronic drum kit with the expandable V31 sound module, a stand-mounted VH-10 hi-hat and two crash cymbals. It is aimed at drummers who want a more performance-oriented layout without a large footprint.
Compared with the TD313, Roland upgrades the snare to the PD-12P, with three piezo sensors and positional sensing. The VH-10 mounts on a regular hi-hat stand for natural open and closed control, and two dual-zone CY-12C-T crashes join a three-zone CY-14R-T ride with choke support. The redesigned PD-8H and PD-10H toms use offset sensors for even dynamics.
The V31 shares its sound engine with Roland's V71 and V51 modules, with a DW-sampled library and wireless downloads from Roland Cloud. Does it work with a Mac via USB? Yes: USB-C provides multi-channel audio and MIDI for recording. Can you expand it? Yes: the module has a digital pad input plus extra trigger inputs, and the MDS-Compact 2 stand has room for more pads.
A good fit for gigging-minded home drummers who want acoustic-style hi-hat technique. You will need a hi-hat stand, kick pedal, snare stand and throne.
