The beyerdynamic DT 770 M is a closed dynamic monitoring headphone built for drummers and front-of-house engineers. Its defining feature is isolation. The reinforced spring clip construction and tight softskin ear pads attenuate roughly 35 dBA of ambient noise. That is enough to hear a click or monitor mix clearly behind an acoustic kit.
The 80 ohm drivers cover 5 Hz to 30,000 Hz at a nominal sound pressure level of 105 dB, so there is headroom to spare on loud stages. The straight, single-sided cable runs about 3 m, carries an inline volume control and ends in a 3.5 mm mini jack with a 6.35 mm adapter. Being able to trim your level at the cable, without reaching for the mixer, is a small thing you quickly stop wanting to live without.
The spring steel headband clamps at approximately 6.5 N, deliberately tight so the headphones stay put while you play, and the softskin ear pads are replaceable. The DT 770 M weighs 300 g without the cable and is made in Germany.
